Michael
W. Ross, PhD, MPH, MHPEd
Michael Ross was educated in
New Zealand, Australia, Sweden,
and Finland, headed the AIDS
Program for South Australia,
and served as director of the
National Center in HIV Social
Research at the University of
New South Wales. He is now professor
of public health at the University
of Texas-Houston School of Public
Health.
Mike's research
focuses on STDs, HIV/AIDS, homosexuality,
psychology, drug use, and AIDS-related
burnout. He is American editor
of AIDS Care, serves on the
boards of six other journals,
and won the 1989 Newman Award
for excellence in AIDS research.

Saving Lives Through Alternate
Options (SLAO) is a 501 (C)
3 non profit non governmental
organization that provides
humanitarian supportive service
for victims of conflicts and
natural disasters. SLAO also
provides capacity building
and technical assistance programs
aimed at reducing health disparities
in minority and low income
communities in the US and
Sub Saharan Africa.

SLAO’s
vision
is to
enrich
and
strengthen
through
language
specific,
and
culturally
appropriate
programs

socio-economic

of emerging
populations
within
US and
Sub
Saharan
Africa.
To achieve
this
vision,
programs,
which
increase
participation
in civic,
economic
and
social
endeavors,
have
been
implemented
in serving
the
agency’s
clientele. |
Advocacy

Recently,
SLAO partnered
with Pfizer pharmaceutical
in securing sophisticated,
state of the art,
analytical medical
equipments worth
over four hundred
thousand US dollars
which were donated
to the National
Pharmaceutical
Quality Control
Laboratory of
Sierra Leone.
The equipments
will be used to
test drug efficacy
and maintain quality
controls over
drugs imported
into Sierra Leone.

Humanitarian
Services
|
|
SLAO's
humanitarian services
focus on Internally
Displaced People, (IDP’s),
who generally are not
served by other NGO's;
the organization's capacity
building programs focus
on empowering marginalized
persons and their communities
in building self-sufficiency
and sustainable developments.
Additionally, SLAO provides
technical assistance
programs to local CBO's
in countries of operations;
such assistance include
program development
and evaluations, grants
managements |

Human
Rights Advocacy |
SLAO is a member of The Coalition
Against Human Traffickinh in Houston to address human
trafficking; The Rescue and Restore Coalition and have
collaborative agreements with Youth For Human Rights,
a Los Angeles, California based human rights organization.
SLAO's Executive Director, Mrs. Judith Momoh, MPH, was
a panelist at the Youth Human Rights summit held in New
York. Her panel's theme was Leaders of Tomorrow.
